Language schools
FOR STUDENTS FROM NON-EU COUNTRIES.
Every year, more than 600,000 students come to the UK to study. Some of them come to attend a language school as a first step. They learn English either to reach an advanced level or to get a sufficiently high IELTS score to go on to University or go on a master program.
Since 31st March 2009, the immigration rules for students have changed, and there is a points-based system regulated under Tier 4. Under these new rules, students coming from outside the EU must get a CAS (Certificate of Sponsorhip for Studies) number from an approved education provider before they apply for a visa in their country.
Approved Education Provider: An education provider that is approved by the UK Border Agency has been given a licence to bring students to the United Kingdom under the Tier 4 points-based system. These education providers are given an A rating or B rating. The B rating is a transitional rating, which means that the education provider is working with the UK Border agency to improve their systems. There are certain circumstances where the status of your approved education provider’s licence could affect you and your application. Therefore, it is essential that the students must be very careful when they choose their education provider.
Students can attend licensed language schools for a minimum of 15 lessons per week, which is a minimum requirement by the UK Border Agency. Every lesson must be at least 45 minutes. There is also the option of attending 20 general English lessons or an ‘intensive course’ if it is more than that.
There are different types of programmes for learning English. For example, one to one tuition or learning English in a teacher’s home.
